MarnaMaria French Fleur de Sel
Coarse Sea Salt from the French Mediterranean
Our Fleur de Sel comes directly from the South of France. Using age old techniques, this sea salt is harvested by hand in the walled medieval village of Aigues-Mortes, a tiny town located along the Mediterranean Sea.
This coarse and slightly wet sea salt from the Camargue region brings the Mediterranean into your home. Fleur de Sel means “Flower of Salt.” Many attribute this name to the faint scent of violets when the salt is dried.
What makes Fleur de Sel different from other salts? Fleur de Sel is completely unprocessed leaving its natural salty flavor intact. In fact, the delicate crystals were initially only harvested by women as men were considered to rough to do such delicate work.
Fleur de Sel is scraped from only the top layer of harvest salt, ensuring highest quality and salt taste. Due to its labor intensive harvest, Fleur de Sel remains one of the most expensive salts in the world.
Today, Fleur de Sel is harvested from several different corners of France but our favorite remains that of the Camargue.
Use Fleur de Sel as you would a finishing salt. Sprinkle on dishes after they have been cooked to enhance otherwise lost favors on your plate!
